Invisalign in Bournemouth – What actually is it?

Photo shows the clear Invisalign aligner
Invisalign in Bournemouth is a state-of-the-art clear braces system designed for adults. Developed over 20 years ago, it has straightened the teeth of over 5 million patients. The clear aligner system is nearly invisible and is perfect if you want discreet orthodontic treatment in the Bournemouth and Poole area.
Invisalign is COMFORTABLE:
- Easy to take the clear aligners in and out
- More comfortable than traditional orthodontic braces as there are no wires or brackets
- The aligners fit perfectly to your teeth so you almost don’t know they’re there
Invisalign is DISCREET:
- The clear Invisalign aligners are almost invisible so people won’t know you’re wearing them
- Unlike other orthodontic treatment, there’s no metal. The aligners are made of a special clear plastic.
Invisalign is CONVENIENT:
- You can remove the braces to eat and drink
- You can eat what you want without food trapping underneath wires
- It’s easy to clean the aligners and your teeth – you just take them out
- Less time is needed at the dentist for your orthodontic treatment
How Invisalign works
Invisalign can correct…

Invisalign is also perfect if:
- You don’t want ‘train-track’ braces
- You have spaces and gaps between your teeth that you wish were closed
- Your teeth look crowded and overlapping which makes them collect stains
How does the Invisalign in Bournemouth process work?
First, together we plan your perfect smile
If you’re thinking about Invisalign I’d first love to see you for a consultation to chat about how we can improve your smile. Here, you can tell me what’s bothering you and we can see how we can achieve the smile you would like.
At your Invisalign orthodontic consultation, I’ll take dental moulds of your teeth. These are then scanned onto a computer, and I can show you exactly how your teeth will look after you finish the aligner treatment.
We design your smile together on the computer and can tweak it until you’re happy. Once you’re ready to change your life, we’ll press the magic ‘go’ button and make the Invisalign aligners.
Secondly, the treatment begins
The clear aligners are similar to a mouthguard. However, they’re wafer thin and after a few days, you’ll hardly notice you’re wearing them.
- You’ll wear a set of aligners for just 1-2 weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss.
- Every time you change the aligner your teeth will move.
- You’ll visit me in Bournemouth approximately once every 6 weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned.
- Once you have finished all of the invisible aligners I will provide you with retainers and the Invisalign treatment is completed.
And finally
Once you have finished all of the invisible aligners I will provide you with retainers and the Invisalign treatment is completed.

What my clients say
I’m totally blown away with my new teeth! My Invisalign only took 3 months and now I love them. Thank you so much

I’ve always been conscious about my teeth. I had 4 months Invisalign treatment and Gareth kindly whitened them for free. I’m really chuffed with the result. Thanks.

I’ve always been unhappy with the colour of my teeth, which have become discoloured over time. After my whitening treatment I had some bonding with Dr. Gareth Edwards I can smile with confidence, highly recommended.

I honestly don’t know why I put off having my teeth whitened for so long. It was so easy and I had great results after only 2 weeks.

First visit to a dentist for 8 years and I’m a really nervous patient. The dentist Gareth Edwards was great.

FAQs
All orthodontic methods cause minor discomfort for a day or so, no matter which orthodontist or dentist you see. Invisalign’s clear aligners are no different. Every 2 weeks when the clear aligners are changed there will be minor pressure on the teeth being straightened. This is normal, and soft food for a day or two and a possible painkiller will alleviate this.
Invisalign in Bournemouth is superior to conventional braces as there are no brackets or wires, so won’t rub on your cheeks.
Always. It doesn’t matter whether you use Invisalign or old train track braces, without a retainer your teeth will move back to a certain degree.
I can provide a fixed retainer (a thin piece of metal behind the teeth) or removable retainers (similar to the Invisalign aligners). This is down to you and we can discuss which option is best at your consultation.
The clear aligners can move individual teeth, including crowns. Because bridges are attached to next door teeth the aligners can be ineffective. However, this is not to say that we can’t take the bridge off, complete the orthodontic treatment and then refill the space. It’s best to contact me for more information.
Yes. And drinking, brushing and flossing. You can also remove them for special occasions and when playing sport, but you’ll always need to remember to wear them for 22 hours per day.
I’d strongly discourage you from doing this as it can cause staining to the aligners which cannot be removed.
Yes, and you must do. The aligners are a snug fit and there’s no danger of them coming off overnight.
It could take a day or two for your tongue and mouth to get used to them. You may have a slight lisp while it does. This will only happen on the very first aligner, not every time you change them.
